In 2009, Open Doors for Lanark Children & Youth launched a new program to develop awareness and understanding of Children’s Mental Health in their local schools. The organization used the Iris the Dragon Book Series and worked with local schools to develop a school wide awareness campaign that culminated in a walk through town to raise awareness.
The walk was named after a similar walk that played out in one of the Iris the Dragon books called “The Brave New Minds Walk.” The walk was a great success and other communities are encouraged to take on this initiative to raise awareness about children’s mental health.
