Mental health can be a difficult topic to bring up and discuss in the class. This page offers you some resources and ideas ranging from our Units of Study program for students age 7-12 to learning and instructional aids that can bridge the tween-to-teen gap.
Our curriculum-aligned program, for regular classroom delivery, deconstructs bullying, develops healthy minds and teaches students how to self advocate.

He Shoots! He Scores! Units of Study
He Shoots! He Scores! Units of Study make up a unique comprehensive program that promotes awareness and understanding of topics related to mental wellness through existing curricular expectations. It reflects Canadian/U.S.A. standards in education and it uses evidence-based material (the Iris the Dragon book series) as the main classroom tool in the units of study.
The 99MB download deconstructs bullying, develop healthy minds and learn to self advocate and contains contains lesson plans, Blackline Masters for student activities, SMARTBoard™ Notebook class engagement activities, plus the PDF version of "He Shoots! He Scores!".

- What do you think has been the most effective mental health campaign - and why?
- Do you think rallies and marches are effective for spreading the word about mental health to reduce stigma? If not, what would you do?
- What are effective ways to reduce a bully's ability to act out?
- Many charities do the same things to raise money: door-to-door fundraising, car washes, table-top auctions, etc. What activity or event would you create, that's really different and makes it easy for people to donate money, for a mental health charity?

Designed to help individuals and families better manage mental health and substance use problems. The site has a self-screening test, interactive tools, a discussion forum and content offered in multiple languages.
Children’s Mental Health Ontario
An informative website defining mental health and illness and mental health challenges for children. Includes links to useful resources and services available in Ontario. Also has information on how to get involved in their Youth Action Committees.
Mind Your Mind
A place for youth and young adults to get helpful information about mental health. Includes tips and online tools for coping with stress and other mental health challenges.
Kids Help Phone
A great site for kids to learn about conditions that may affect them. It’s also a safe place for them to reach out if they need help.
Canadian Red Cross
A good resource with tips on how to identify bullying and stop it
Mental Health America
A list For teens and young adults with useful fact sheets to all issues pertaining to children’s mental health can be found here.
Special Needs Awareness Calendar
This is a handy and nicely produced infographic listing many of the health and wellness awareness days throughout the year. Lots of dates we didn't know about!
Mental Health Resource List (USA)
The Social Work License Map website has organized a list of mental health resources under convenient headings related to youth, women, LGBTQ2, and much more.
Iris the Dragon as a School Play
In 2003, "Catch a Falling Star" was adapted for the theatre for CAMH's Madness and Arts Festival in Toronto. It received positive reviews and was performed for the length of the festival and at Toronto's elementary schools by the Workman Theatre Project.
